Jeffrey is the lead Portfolio Manager for the TCW Global Artificial Intelligence Equity and TCW Global Technology strategies. Additionally, he is a Senior Equity Analyst and his coverage responsibilities include computer hardware & storage, electronics manufacturing systems (EMS), software, IT services, and autos.
Jeffrey has more than 25 years of industry experience in the technology sector with roles as Engineer, buy and sell-side Analyst, venture capitalist, CFO of a communications equipment start-up and Co-Portfolio Manager of a technology sector hedge fund. He began his investment career at Montgomery Securities in 1994 following electronics manufacturing and computer storage. He joined Paul Allen’s Vulcan Ventures in 1999. At Vulcan, three of his investments went public and three were acquired by publicly traded companies. In 2001, he served as the CFO of Zaffire, an optical equipment company funded by Kleiner Perkins, until the company’s sale to Centerpoint Broadband. From 2002- 2004, he was an Analyst at Provident Investment Counsel and followed computer and communications equipment as well as communications services. Most recently, he was a Co-Portfolio Manager of Conquistador Ventures, a technology sector focused hedged fund. Jeffrey holds a BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Communications and Computer Architecture and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is a CFA charterholder.
John Alberg has spent his career identifying opportunities created by emerging technologies to solve pressing business challenges. He is a pioneer in cloud computing and artificial intelligence and has founded and invested in several cutting-edge technology companies. John founded Euclidean in 2008. Euclidean is a private investment partnership that uses state of the art advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning to evaluate individual companies as long-term equity investments.
Sentient Investment Management is a San Francisco-based asset manager that is applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques across a broad range of systematic investment strategies. Sentient utilizes two main branches of AI, one inspired by human cognition and the other by natural selection. These two branches of AI interact with Sentient’s expertise in portfolio management, risk management, and execution to produce a differentiated approach to quantitative investing.
Jeff Holman is Chief Investment Officer of Sentient. Prior to joining Sentient, he worked at Highbridge Capital Management, one of the world’s largest hedge fund firms, where he was a Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer. He began his career at Citadel Investment Group where he led portfolio construction efforts as a member of the Global Equities team. Following Citadel, he was a Portfolio Manager for International Equity strategies at Fuller & Thaler Asset Management. Mr. Holman earned a B.A. in Applied Mathematics, an M.A. in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley where his research involved modeling left tail correlation between investment strategies and the behavioral economic implications of fallible memory.
Brian Chingono is a Partner and Director of Quantitative Research for Verdad Advisers, which combines quantitative factor models and machine learning tools with fundamental analysis. Before joining Verdad, Brian worked at Dimensional Fund Advisors and Credit Suisse. Brian earned an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of business with a concentration in finance, statistics and econometrics. As a graduate student, Brian co-authored two research papers related to Verdad’s investment strategy: Leveraged Small Value Equities and Forecasting Debt Paydown Among Leveraged Equities. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard where he concentrated in governments with economics as a secondary field.
